Food and drinks will be provided. The Dekum Building is one of the oldest Portland office buildings still in existence and was the tallest building in Portland for nearly 20 years. The building housed the Lipman Wolf department store on its first two floors until it moved to the building that houses the Red Star Cafe. The upper floors were home to professionals including doctors, dentists, lawyers, and accountants. The building was completely gutted by fire in 1903 and completely rebuilt. In 1971, Naito Corporation acquired the building and started a complete remodel. This was the first commercial office building acquired by Naito Corporation. The building housed several tenants after the remodel, but over time, one of the tenants, Weiden and Kennedy, grew to eventually lease all of the building. In 1997, the Dekum became a mulit-tenant building again. However, many of the unique interior features requested by Weiden and Kennedy remain including a giant aquarium and a basketball court. Dan Weiden’s office is largely unchanged from when he occupied it. The first floor restaurant, Blue Plate, was featured on the Food Network and is a popular tourist attraction.
